There’s something magical about a good story, isn’t there? It can whisk us off us to distant lands, introduce us to unforgettable characters, make us laugh out loud, or move us to tears. Stories connect us, inspire us, and remind us of our shared humanity. In July 2026, storytelling is coming to Woodhall Spa!
We’re absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of the Woodhall Spa Festival of Storytelling, taking place from 10-12 July 2026. This brand-new festival promises to be a landmark event for our village, bringing three days of literary magic, creative workshops, and unforgettable experiences for the whole community.
A Festival for Everyone
Whether you’re eight or eighty, this festival is for you. Our programme is being carefully crafted to celebrate storytelling in all its glorious forms.
This isn’t your typical literary event by a million miles! From the moment you arrive, you’ll find yourself swept up in a whirlwind of possibilities. Children can lose themselves in captivating storytelling sessions where professional storytellers weave tales that dance between the real and the fantastical, sparking imaginations and planting seeds for future writers and dreamers. Adults have the chance to hear established authors share their work, offering insights into their creative processes and the stories behind the stories.
But we’re not asking you to simply sit and listen – we want you to become part of the story. Our interactive workshops cater to all skill levels, whether you’re a complete beginner who’s curious about creative writing or someone who’s been scribbling in notebooks for years. And if you’re ready to step into the spotlight, our open mic sessions provide a welcoming stage to share your voice.
More Than Just Words
But storytelling isn’t confined to the page or the spoken word. Our festival celebrates narrative in all its forms. Picture yourself wandering through specially designed story walks, where our beautiful park becomes the backdrop for immersive tales. Encounter living statues that blur the line between art and narrative. Experience an innovative animated storytelling installation that brings stories to life through cutting-edge technology. Enjoy music and poetry right across the park.
We’re also launching a whole heap of competitions, including flash fiction challenges, where brevity meets brilliance, and participants must craft compelling tales against the clock, or a word count. It’s storytelling as sport, and it’s incredible to watch!
A Legacy for Our Children
One of the things we’re most excited about is our planned collaboration with local schools to produce a souvenir zine. This isn’t just a commemorative booklet – it’s an opportunity for young people in our community to become published authors and artists, contributing their own stories and creativity to a keepsake that families will treasure for years to come.
The benefits for children extend far beyond the festival weekend. To make this ambitious dream a reality, we’re fundraising to cover the costs involved. We’re hoping to secure some of the funds we need from the East Lindsey Community Fund and other sources, but here’s where you come in: we need to demonstrate strong community support to unlock that funding.
